Ben’s den
You may remember this.
I knew it wouldn’t last, but just a few weeks later I’m faced with this.
Not only is it nearly as messy as it was before I attacked it with an exocet missile, but he’s also set up a den under the pinball machine, in which he sleeps.
If you look very carefully you can see a foot lying on top of the duvet.
Here’s a close-up.
When I explained to a visiting estate agent why there was a duvet, pillow, bedside lamp and book piled up in the corner of the room, he said -
“Perhaps he’s training to be a commando?”
I put this to Ben and he replied -
“No, a spy.”
I have informed Ben that his nights of curling up on a floorspace too small to house a guinea pig humanely will be coming to an abrupt end when potential buyers start descending. Assuming they do, which in this market is debatable.
I will have to brace myself for complaints that I’m ruining his chances of ever being a SpyKid.

I thought you were meant to make dens outside! We did, under trees, in trees etc with stuff we found lying around. Great fun.

With the descent of buyers for your house the mood for the move gathers pace. More and more do I hear strains of Vera Lynn in the background as I read your blog**. No doubt the Rock* will offer more scope for outside dens than Plymouth, but what will Ben and Hannah think of their childhood there? Will they hang out at the Weighbridge too?
*By the way I thought that was Gibraltar?
**Which I still do with great enjoyment.

M&M - dens inside, made of sofa cushions, and dens outside, made of bits of old planks. Where there is stuff, there are dens.
21st - mess will be banished from next week. But who will do the tidying?
Penny - B and H are putting on a positive face that hides inner fears. The Rock is what locals call Jersey. The Weighbridge is no longer the bus station. Temps passe.
